THE PRESIDENT DECLARED A STATE OF EMERGENCY ON WATER SUPPLY,SANITATION AND HYGIENE SECTOR
President Muhammadu Buhari has formally declared a state of emergency on Nigeria’s
Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Sector and called on all State Governments to complement the effort by according the sector similar recognition to enable all the stakeholders work together to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal targets for WASH 2030.It could be recalled that in April this year, the Federal Executive Council approved the National Action Plan for the revitalization of the WASH sector, including the declaration of a state of emergency on the WASH Sector.
Mr.President Muhammadu Buhari also Unveiled the NATIONAL WASH ACTION PLAN at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja on the 8/11/2018. The Action Plan for the Revitalization of Nigeria’s WASH Sector establishes a 13-year Revitalization Strategy and is the result of extensive consultation between the Federal and State Governments, written comments received from the State governments, as well as feedback from the second National Retreat on February 13th and 14th, which included State Commissioners and SWA General Managers from 28 states, were incorporated into this plan. The Goal of the Revitalization is to ensure that all Nigerians have access to sustainable and safely-managed WASH services by 2030, in compliance with the SDG6. The State of Emergency declared by Mr. President is to accelerate the sector development.
