FG SENSITIZES STAKEHOLDERS ON DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT IN THE WATER SECTOR

The Department of Special Duties, FMWR held a 3-Day Workshop on Disaster Risk Management in the Water Sector at Reverton Hotel GRA, Lokoja from 28th – 30th Nov, 2018. The Director Special Duties Department Mr. Peter Nwakpa  who represented the Permanent Secretary,Federal Ministry Of Water Resources Musa W. Ibrahim Ph.D informed Partcipants that the Workshop is  aimed at preparing people to be more resilient to disaster and raise global awareness on Disaster at community level. It  started with an overview of flooding incidents in Nigeria. The papers presented were on Early warning system and disaster response, local flood risk resilience, pollution control on the High sea and ethics and value in an organization. Stakeholders were urged to  make information available to the public promptly especially as it relates to hydrological data. The workshop was attended by representatives of National Inland Water Ways, Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), FCT NEMA, Kogi State Water Board, Members of the Press and Staff of Federal Ministry Of Water Resources. The Communique at the end of the Workshop will strengthen the policy on disaster risk management in the Water sector
