COUNTERPART FUNDS WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE AND EQUALLY USED IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PROJECTS THAT WILL NOT IMPACT NEGATIVELY ON THE POPULACE.
The Honourable Minister, Federal Ministry of Water Resources Engr. Suleiman H. Adamu FNSE, FAEng has assured that member countries will seek ways to ensure that Counterpart funds are available and the funds are judiciously used in the implementation of projects that will not impact negatively on the populace.
The Minister who is equally the Chairman of the Niger Basin Authority (NBA) Council of Ministers gave the assurance while declaring the Extraordinary Session open on Tuesday 26th November, 2019 in Abuja.
Engr. Adamu emphasized that the “Extraordinary Session of the NBA Ministers is of vital importance to our common organization as it seeks to consider two very important issues of Annex No. 2 to the Water Charter on Water Reticulations for the coordinated management of dams in the Niger Basin as well as the Study Report on the feasibility of NBA’s autonomous Hydro-Power Financing Mechanism.”
Nine countries of the Niger Basin Authority (NBA) converged in Abuja, Nigeria with the same purpose of promoting cooperation among member countries and to ensure the integrated development of the Niger Basin as well as protect the ecosystem for the enhancement of living conditions and prosperity of the people.
The NBA member countries include: Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Cote D’ Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Niger Republic and Nigeria.
The Minister stressed that the session will provide a good opportunity to strengthen dialogue and consultation between member countries to their betterment.
Earlier in his speech, the Executive Secretary of NBA, Mr. Abdulrahimi Birem Hammed noted that the Extraordinary Session of Council of Ministers is a very important step in revitalizing and capacity building process of the NBA.
Hammed said that the session will amongst other issues adopt the feasibility report of the NBA’s sustainable hydro-power financing mechanism requested by our Heads of State since 2010.
He thanked the Government of Nigeria for accepting to organize the Extraordinary Session of the NBA Council of Ministers in Abuja.
The high point of the meeting was the cutting of the Fifty-five Years Anniversary Cake of NBA by the Ministers.
